Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa has been a revelation and a breath of fresh in the French league.
He has managed to get the team from almost nowhere into a title chasing position last season. However, the club are set to lose him as soon as they brought him. The Argentine announced immediately after the club’s opening match of the season that he would be stepping down from his role. This is widely seen as a move that would allow him to become the next coach of the Mexican national team. Mexico recently parted company with manager Miguel Herrera, who has done extremely well, due to off the field issues.
Bielsa has been a national team manager before and would relish the prospect of taking the Mexican national team to the summit of the North American football. Currently, the US national team is seen as the top dog in this region. However, they have been able to improve his squad by bringing in a number of German players, who are eligible to play for US through their parentage, and Bielsa is hoping to change in this by using this extraordinary tactics. The former Athletic Bilbao manager plays a very fast game that is very draining for the players but can be a useful weapon at international level.
“I have just resigned from my job as OM coach … I have completed my work here. I put everything into this job. I haven’t spoken with anyone at the Mexican Federation. It is only a hypothesis, and I never discuss a hypothesis,” said Bielsa after stepping down. The fact that the manager has denied links with the Mexican Federation comes as a surprise to many, but he remains the favourite to get the job. He was previously manager of the Chilean national team.
